“Skyline” set visit report

From Bloody-Disgusting.com:

It’s bright up here; blinding, really. I silently curse myself for not bringing sunglasses as the blazing sun beats down from above, creating a harsh glare on the white rooftop in front of me. I’m standing at the summit of a high-rise condominium complex in Marina del Rey, the city of Los Angeles spread out below me in all directions except West, where the cool blue of the Pacific stretches as far as the eye can see.

Stepping into a covered shelter I’m greeted by a bank of electronic equipment that includes two monitors, both of which display actress Scottie Thompson, in real time, gripping something just out of frame. It’s an axe, actually, which I can see as she lifts it into view, but there’s more – something dangling from the end of it…something both bloody and disgusting, I can assure you. A command is shouted in her direction, and she turns around to find… Well, I don’t know. But even if I did know, I couldn’t tell you.

Co-star Thompson, a pretty girl with a pair of profoundly azure eyes made more stunning by the navy blue robe wrapped around her thin body, echoed this sentiment when I asked about the physical demands of the role:

“[I’m] living in a really hyped-up state for the majority of the film by virtue of the genre”, she told me. “It’s a taxing experience emotionally, of course, but even physically when your body’s that tense all the time.” Describing her character as a “girl-next-door type… [with] an edge”, the actress was reticent to tell me too much, for fear of revealing something forbidden.

“She’s a very strong-willed character”, she said hesitantly. “I don’t know what I can say without giving it away. But yeah, I think she’s someone who knows who she is. She’s a lot more introverted than a lot of the women in the [film]. She keeps to herself, she’s sort of a fish-out-of-water in this particular setting…and I think really finds her voice over the course of the film.”
